FAQ
New South Wales Scooter Licensing
In New South Wales you are required to have a riders license to operate a scooter on all public roads. You must also be at least 16 years and 9 months old.
Getting a license generally involves passing a riders test (computer + riding). You will also complete a rider training course which helps you develop the basic skills required to operate a scooter on public roads.
For your nearest scooter rider training centre please visit the RTA website.
The steps involved in gaining a riders license are as follows:
- attend a pre-learners course and obtain a Certificate of Competency
- complete a learner knowledge test at an RTA within 3 months of obtaining the Certificate of Competency
- attend a pre-provisional course after 3 months of gaining your learner licence and pass the pre-provisional test within 6 months of obtaining your learner licence
